WhakapapaWhakapapa (New Zealand's largest ski area since joining with Turoa Ski Resort) is part of Tongariro National Park, New Zealand's oldest National Park and a World Heritage area. Whakapapa is operated under a license issued by the Department of Conservation and is owned and run by Ruapehu Alpine Lifts Ltd. There are 43 trails with terrain for all ability levels, including off-piste expert terrain. TukinoTukino is on the eastern slopes of Mt. Ruapehu and is reached using an access road approximately 20 kilometres from Waiouru. Extensive off-piste skiing is the feature of Tukino. ManganuiManganui is located on the slopes of Mt. Egmont and is maintained by the Stratford Mountain Club. Access to the ski area is from a sealed road through Beech forest.
